In the spring of 2011, nine students at Owen High School (Black Mountain, NC), became part of a bold experiment in education when they joined the pilot program for FILM FOR AMERICA.
Known as the Warhorse Filmmakers, these high school students experienced a curriculum dedicated to developing leadership & empowerment through filmmaking. Led by professional filmmakers who utilized outside the box tactics like ropes courses instead of film theory, the students not only became proficient at shooting, sound and editing, but more importantly learned to be accountable for their actions, work together as a unit, and use the power of film to meld with their community.
KING, the class’ debut feature film, is available for purchase below. Purchase price can be whatever you feel like donating. The most important thing is that the students’ hard work will be shared.
100% of proceeds will go directly to the Owen High School Theatre Department.
